Slow week for Valley teams

Here's a quick recap of the past couple of days before we make our Super Bowl 48 predictions tomorrow (I can't remember the Roman numerals).

The only two games involving Valley teams this week because of the midterm week break, and both involved Chazy. First, the Elizabethtown-Lewis boys basketball team was unable to score a win against the Eagles Monday, falling 42-25 as Justin LaPier led the short-handed Lions with 11 points and Austin Morris scored 9 as both Zac Noka-Bailey and Cortland White were out of the lineup. The Lions are in an offensive slump at the moment, scoring a total of 39 points in their last two games.

On Tuesday, Hanna Whitney scored 19 points as Keene defeated Chazy 59-34. That Whitney paced the team is scoring is not surprising, but what has been over the past three games is the play of freshman guard Elaina Smith, who scored 16 points and is averaging 16.7 over her past three games. To compare, Smith has scored 50 points in her last three games, exactly doubling her season total from the previous eight games combined.
