Weather Alert Detail

  • Flood Watch for Monroe County, New York
  • Flood Watch issued March 28 at 10:39AM EDT until March 29 at 8:00AM EDT by NWS
  • Effective: Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10:39 a.m.
  • Expires: Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 8 a.m.
  • ...ICE JAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE TODAY AND TONIGHT ON SOME
    CREEKS...
.ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE CREEK AND RIVER ICE HAS MELTED...THERE ARE
STILL SOME ICE JAMS IN PLACE...AND SOME ICE IN THE HEADWATERS OF
CREEKS IN THE WATCH AREAS. WARMING TEMPERATURES ALONG WITH AN
QUARTER TO THIRD OF AN INCH OF RAIN WILL CAUSE CREEKS TO RISE
ENOUGH TO MOVE THE ICE THAT IS LEFT. AS A RESULT...THERE WILL BE
AN INCREASING RISK FOR ICE JAM FLOODING TODAY AND TONIGHT.
IT IS DIFFICULT TO FORECAST THE EXACT TIME AND LOCATION AN ICE JAM
WILL DEVELOP...BUT GENERALLY ICE JAMS TEND TO DEVELOP IN THE SAME
LOCATIONS FROM YEAR TO YEAR...ESPECIALLY IN SPOTS WHERE THERE ARE
SHARP TURNS IN THE CREEK...OR AREAS WHICH CONSTRICT THE FLOW.
...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING...
    THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR
    * A PORTION OF WESTERN NEW YORK...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
    COUNTY...MONROE.
    * THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.
    * RAIN AND WARMING TEMPERATURES WILL CAUSE ANY REMAINING ICE TO
BREAK UP ON AREA CREEKS...WHICH WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL
    FOR ICE JAMS.
    * ICE JAMMING MAY CAUSE A BACKUP OF WATER ON AREA CREEKS WHICH
MAY BRING SOME FLOODING ALONG THE CREEK BANKS. ICE HAS BEEN
REPORTED ON BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO BLACK CREEK SOUTHWEST OF
    ROCHESTER.
