Citizens exit the Carol Theater of Chestertown at the conclusion of a vaudeville show held last September in conjunction with Rum-Runners’ Weekend. The historic theater was the premier cultural venue in town in the mid-1900s, but in recent years has hosted only a few movies and shows — after being closed down for decades. An initiative to resuscitate the theater has been launched, with a vision of refurbishing it and offering concerts, shows, musicals and other performing arts, focusing on local and regional talent.
