Open house set Nov. 9 to view county horses

The horses, taken from the Wing and a Prayer Farm in Essex Sept. 18 through 20 after an investigation, led to charges against owner Shelley Wing and daughter, Emily, on counts of animal cruelty. On Oct. 9, the horses were deemed to be property of the county after Wing was unable to pay a bond for their care.

Ownership of the 41 horses seized from an Essex Farm now lies with Essex County after the owner failed to produce a $43,890 bond for their care while the criminal investigation continues.

Horse owners daughter also charged for neglect

A second person has been charged in the case of alleged cruelty to over 40 horses in the town of Essex. Shelley Wing, 49, who was originally charged with animal cruelty for failing to provide sustenance to 41 horses that lived on their 20 acre farm, has been joined in the legal case by her daughter, Emily Wing, 20.

Thanks to a tip from a concerned citizen, 41 malnourished horses have been seized and their owner, Shelley Wing of Essex, has been charged with 41 counts of failing to provide sustenance for them.
