Quick action by Warrensburg and Chestertown firefighters saved a historic landmark in uptown Warrensburg Wednesday, June 27 as they quelled a blaze in the former Art Brown Shoe store block, located next to the Floyd Bennett Memorial Bandstand. Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Justin Hull said that a cigarette discarded in a plastic container on a porch outside an upstairs apartment sparked a blaze that damaged the porch floor and the exterior wall. Local officials praised their work for saving a building that is one of the town’s most valuable historic commercial assets.
