Crown Point man faces charges

— A Crown Point man faces a number of charges.

Cole M. Brooks, 19, has been charged with second-degree rape, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.

Brooks was charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a felony, and four counts of misdemeanor second-degree menacing, three counts of third-degree assault, second-degree harassment, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child. All are in connection with a Feb. 6 fight.

The dispute originated with an argument, state police said. Alcohol was a factor, police said.

Brooks fired a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun seven times in the driveway of the Pearl Street residence and threatened to shoot the four others, police said.

He assaulted three people, one of whom was a 14-year-old girl, who was choked and struck in the face, police said. Brooks also allegedly struck a 19-year-old woman in the face with the butt of the shotgun.

An 18-year-old man who was trying to break up the fight sustained bite and scratch marks from Brooks, who also struck the man with the shotgun, police said.

The first officers to arrive were from the Ticonderoga Police Department, who arrested Brooks and took him to Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga for treatment of injuries he sustained while struggling with the 18-year-old male.

Brooks was arraigned in Ticonderoga town court and was sent to the Essex County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
