Stand-off ends peacefully in West Chazy

— A Jan. 19 phone call lead to a tense, 10-hour standoff with State Police.

At about 11:30 p.m., Clinton County Emergency Services received a call from a West Chazy man saying that he had just killed his wife and was going to commit suicide. State Police descended on the Academy Street residence of a man later identified as Anthony J. Panetti, age 54, and began an all night stand-off.

State Police crisis negotiators and the Special Operations Response Team responded and attempted to talk Panetti into surrendering. He came out of his residence at 9 a.m.

Panetti’s wife was located at a residence in Plattsburgh, uninjured. Panetti was brought to the Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
