PTO Volleyball Tournament | Westport Column

Are you interested in local lore and the history of our community? Would you like to share your knowledge with visitors and newcomers who want to explore our little town and learn about its fascinating past? The Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to sketch out a new version of their Westport Walking Tour, one that will share stories about the people and events of the past as well as highlighting architectural points of interest. This doesn’t need to be more than an outline or a “rough draft.”

In other words, have no fear, it’s not a writing assignment! More like a question of getting the basic information down. Once the basic framework is in place, the chamber will hire a pro to finalize it, and ultimately the goal is to make it printable or downloadable onto phones and tablets.

The chamber will provide volunteers with copies of the previous walking tours to work from, and the project shouldn’t take more of a time commitment than two or three meetings over a month or two. If you’re interested in helping out, let the chamber know by sending an email to chamber@westportny.com.

If cabin fever is setting in, here’s a great way to get rid of it by getting out and jumping around a little. The Westport Parent Teacher Organization invites you to take part in the annual PTO Volleyball Tournament on Friday, March 7 at 5 p.m in the school gym. Out of town teams are welcome—put a team together and come have fun! Teams should be composed of three males and three females, with no regular substitutes. There will be food and lots of prizes, but numbers are limited so register early. Forms are available at the school web site westportcs.org, or at the school office. For more information, call Laura Sells-Doyle at 962-4049.

And it’s school budget time again. The School Board and Staff of WCS invite you to a Budget Meeting and Public Hearing on the Alternative Veteran’s Exemption followed by a regular meeting of the School Board on Thursday, Feb. 13, starting at 5:30 p.m. in the school library. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
