New water meters being installed | Elizabethtown Column

Most of us do not have the opportunity to travel to Sochi, Russia to support our USA Olympic Athletes, but we have the next best thing. Friday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m., before the lighting in Sochi will be televised on national TV, there is a ceremony lighting the Olympic Flame in Lake Placid at the cauldron on horse show grounds. Once the flame is lit, there will be a torch run from the show grounds through to Mid’s Park in the Village for the lighting of a smaller cauldron representing the Empire State Winter Games. If your lucky enough, you may just meet up with a few of our past local Olympians that are supporting our teams from home. If you would like more information call 523-9518 or email coordinator@northelba.org.

The Hand House on River Street will be hosting a session of healthy living workshops sponsored by the Eastern Adirondack Health Care Network, Essex County Mental Health Association and Essex County Retired Senior Volunteer Program. The free six week sessions begin on Monday, Feb. 24, continue each Monday through March 31, from 12:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. You must register by Tuesday, Feb. 18, for more information or to register call 496-1826.

Since Punxsutawney Phil predicted we have six more weeks of winter, I’m sure that was no surprise, you still have time to get in shape for the shorts and flip-flop weather of Spring by joining the Zumba dance sessions at the Elizabethtown Social Center. Classes are available four times a week. Monday’s and Thursday’s at 5:30 p.m., two classes on Wednesday’s, 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or choose the Saturday class at 9 a.m. Classes are $5 for adults and free for teens, come join the fun by calling 873-6408 for more information.

Special Note: If you live in the Elizabethtown Water District, the town council would like you to know that the new water meters are beginning to be installed. There will be one of our employees from the town water district, along with an employee from the meter company doing each home meter installation. If you haven’t been called, be expecting a phone call making the arrangements for the workers to come into your home. If you have any questions, call the Elizabethtown Town Hall at 873-6555.
