The weather is like a January thaw, but more winter is predicted on this Groundhog Day. So don’t put your winter cloths away just yet. The weather made it great to get out to enjoy the many exciting events being offered. There were three opportunities to see the drama production of “The Winnie the Pooh Kids.” I was able to see it today and the children did a wonderful job. Hats off to the adults that helped to make everything go off perfectly. These are the elementary children and they have a lot to learn, for many this is a first time of acting. This is such a great program for our children. They had a full house in attendance which was great to see.
I tried to go see the movie featuring Captain Phillips’ experience when his ship was captured and he was taken as a hostage. He was there to help introduce the movie and answer questions. A good 40 minutes ahead of the starting time they were sold out, an thus we did not get to enjoy this event. This was a great opportunity for a local community to be able to make this available. It would have been a packed house if they had been able to hold this at the school auditorium.
Another big event here this past week was the celebration of our special 102 year-old Birthday lady, Ida Davis Atkinson. They had a big party for her at the Senior Nutrition site in Essex, I heard there were about 40 people there to help her celebrate. She is a real treasure of a person and a great joy to meet. I had the honor of working with her in my younger days at the diner.
The local restaurants had special Super Bowl offerings also for fans to come together and enjoy the game with other fans.
