April is Poetry Month | Mill Creek Musings

Some folks start their day by watching “Good Morning America” or one of the other talk/news shows. I like to begin my day with a poem read by Garrison Kiellor on NPR’S “Writers’ Almanac”. It was there that I learned that April is Poetry Month.

One of the poems I heard was “Written in March” by William Wordsworth. The poem perfectly describes spring in the Adirondacks. So I have chosen a few lines to quote here:

“The cock is crowing,

The stream is flowing,

The small birds twitter,

The lake doth glitter

The green field sleeps in the sun

“Like an army defeated

The snow hath retreated

There’s joy in the mountains,

There’s life in the fountains,

Small clouds are sailing,

Blue sky prevailing:

The rain is over and gone!”
