— The Lake George Community Band is presenting a concert this weekend, and its leaders say the music they’ll be performing is intended to lift spirits in the face of this year’s persistent winter weather.

“Celebrate the end of winter and put ‘spring’ in your step,” band publicist Dale Perry said this week, noting that the accomplished group will present its free spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday April 6 in the Lake George High School auditorium. The school is located on Canada St..

The 65 member community band, conducted by area music educator and jazz musician Michael Craner, will perform selections representing a wide variety of musical idioms, Perry said.

“The music is intended to beat this winter’s ‘blahs,’” he said. Selections include motion picture themes, circus tunes and marches, patriotic music, light classics, and much more.

Now in its 11th season, the Lake George Community Band performs year-round at local venues, including at Glens Falls High School where the Glens Falls Symphony performs.

In addition to a series of indoor concerts, the Community Band performs a series of concerts Thursday nights during July and August in the Lake George Shepard Park amphitheater.

This summer in mid-July, the Lake George band will be hosting the 10th annual Community Band Festival.

Members of the Lake George Community Band range from high school students to retirees and include several music educators.

More information can be found on www.lgcb.org, and the band can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
