Saratoga Springs In Johnsburg Central School’s first year of swapping out the varsity field hockey program for girls soccer, one almnus continues to make waves on the collegiate level with her field hockey prowess.
Skidmore College field hockey senior Kelly Blackhurst, of North River in the town of Johnsburg, became the program’s all-time leading scorer with a pair of goals in a 5-1 win Saturday, Sept. 14 at Wheaton College, according to Skidmore College Athletics.
With the majority of her senior season ahead of her, Blackhurst has 81 goals and 42 assists for 204 points, two more than Christine Kemp ‘11. She is 23rd all-time in NCAA III scoring and is second all-time among Liberty League players.
Skidmore, ranked 15th nationally is 4-1, while Wheaton falls to 3-3.
Ahead 3-0 in the second half, Blackhurst wristed her first goal of the game past Wolters into the lower right corner of the cage off a feed from junior forward Sofia San Marco to tie the all-time points record.
Blackhurst, who recorded 13 shots total in the game and six on net, finally broke through for her 204th career point at the 66:56 mark sending home a pass by DeGregory that came from outside the right-hand portion of the circle.
