Children await costume judging during the annual Thurman Halloween party. The Oct. 26 event drew dozens of children for a variety of activities.
Glen-Athol Road renewed
The road construction project on Glen-Athol Road in Thurman should be completed by the end of this week. The Warren County Highway Department crew has worked through snow flurries this past week tearing up the old road and repaving the section between Valley Road and Bowen Hill Road — which everyone here knows is likely the worst section of that road. We hear that construction on the northern end of Valley Road will be starting in late spring.
Work on reconstructing the River Road is near completion and should be open to traffic in the coming week.
Operation Christmas Child underway
The deadline to fill and drop off shoeboxes full of donated items for Operation Christmas Child is Nov. 8.
Gail Needham has placed pamphlets and labels related to the program at the town hall. These labels are to be used to designate the age and gender of the child to receive the items. Gail has asked that if people can purchase a shoebox-sized rectangular plastic container at the local dollar store — this would be helpful because there is a limited supply of the existing boxes. These containers serve a double purpose — after the goodies are removed, families overseas use these containers to store rice and other dry goods. Also, she reminds readers that other thoughtful items to add to these boxes may be a washcloth, towel, bar of soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush and deodorant. Filled boxes may be dropped off at the Thurman Town Hall during regular business hours.
