— The Moriah Vikings used their speed advantage to make their way to the Section VII/Class D championship game.

The second seed Vikings blanked the sixth seed Westport Eagles, 6-0, Oct. 29 to punch their ticket to the sectional title game to be played at Plattsburgh High Saturday, Nov. 2, at 5 p.m.

"We were not playing the possession game that we needed to against a team like this," Eagles head coach Brad Rascoe said. "We did not have our A game tonight and their speed was the difference."

Samantha Ida opened the scoring in the 15th minute on an assist by Taylor Sprague. In the 21st minute, Ida set up Reagan Pratt for the second goal of the game.

"We work on controlling the ball at our feet a lot, but our speed is the key," Pratt said. "We are very excited to go to the sectional finals and we hope that we can go up there and win."

Halie Snyder then scored in the 32nd minute on an assist from Caitlin Pelkey. Pelkey scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute to close out the first half scoring.

"I think that it is a privilege to get to the sectional finals and I think that we have a great opportunity," Snyder said. "It is really exciting and it makes me feel like all of the hard work we put in this season has paid off."

Jordan Speshock scored the opening goal of the second half in the 57th minute on the second assist of the game by Sprague.

"It is very exciting to go to the sectional finals," Sprague said. "We played well today and worked together as a team."

Sarah Slattery closed the scoring sheet with a goal in the 68th minute, assisted by Pratt.

Lauren Cross made a pair of saves in the net for the victorious Vikings.
