Johnsburg board handles land issues, accepts resignation

— Town Board members accepted the resignation of Planning Board member William Moos and appointed Planning Board alternate — Gretchen Millington — to replace him. The town will now advertise for a replacement for the alternate position, along with two vacancies on the ZBA. Millington starts immediately. The next Planning Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at the Tannery Pond Community Center (Lower Lobby).

Town Board members learned that the Occupancy Tax Committee has met and made upgrades to the criteria for applicants. Applications and instructions for the Occupancy Tax Funding Request For Tourism Promotion of the Town of Johnsburg are currently online at www.johnsburgny.com. Applications must be sent by mail, in person or electronically to Cherie@johnsburgny.com. The deadline is Nov. 15.

The Town Board also authorized the supervisor to proceed with purchasing a small piece of property adjacent to the town’s sandpit to mine material for treating the roads during the winter. The acquisition would give the town an extra year’s worth of material. Earlier in the year, town officials finalized the purchase of a piece of property from the state of New York.

“We’re looking at reserves that may last four or five years,” Vanselow said.

The next meeting of the Johnsburg Town Board will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Wevertown Community Center.
