— The Crown Point Community Thanksgiving dinner has been canceled.

Scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Crown Point United Methodist Church on Creek Road, the event will not be held because of weather forecasts calling for a winter storm.

“We would rather cancel at this moment than either place those traveling in harms way or prepare food that will certainly be wasted,” said Pastor David Hirtle of the First Congregational Church, a dinner organizer. “Folks, this is heart breaking to do, but we must err on the side of caution.”

Hirtle asked people who were preparing food for the dinner to bring those items to the Crown Point Food Pantry, located at the United Methodist Church on Creek Road. The food will be frozen and distributed to those in need.

“Please pray that our efforts will be blessed and that the residual food will find it’s way into needed homes,” Hirtle said. “Thank you for keeping faith with us. Let’s pray for next year.”
