Police sting leads to arrests

Two arrests were made following a state police underage drinking initiative Oct. 29 in Essex County.

Arrested for misdemeanor prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage to a person under the age of 21 were Carlo F. Calabrese, age 19, of Boyea’s Store on Plank Road in Moriah Center and Rubina Shaheen, 44, of Mobil Station on Main Street in Port Henry.

As part of the investigation, an underage volunteer was sent into each business in an attempt to have the clerk sell the minor alcohol. Six retail stores were checked throughout the county.

Businesses that were checked and found to be in compliance include Grover Hills Deli on Pelfershire Road in Mineville, Celotti’s Wine and Spirits at 4326 Main St. in Port Henry, Mac’s Market at 4308 Main St. in Port Henry and Stewart’s Shop at 4300 Main St. in Port Henry.
