— The cats were seized by Agriculture and Markets, and Staley was ordered not to sell 24 puppies which were in her store for sale while her case was pending. Later, in August, Tammy‚Äôs husband Michael Staley staged a burglary at Northern Puppies. He later admitted to city police that he took the 24 puppies to make it look like they were stolen, then dropped them off at various locations around the Saranac area.

Tammy said that he dropped them all near homes, hoping they would be found.

Michael was subsequently arrested by city police for 24 counts of animal cruelty. Nineteen of the abandoned puppies were located by area residents and turned in to city police, but five were never found. The 19 rescued puppies have all been adopted out.

Both Tammy and Michael Staley are scheduled to be in Plattsburgh City Court Nov. 7 before Judge Rogers.
