Lake Placid The Lake Placid Elementary School Drama Club will bring the colorful story of a young boy living as an animal in the wildly zany story of the Disney play the Jungle Book Kids.
Students will perform on June 7 at 7 p.m. and June 8 at 2 p.m. at the Lake Placid Middle school High School auditorium, 34 School Street.
“We picked the play because it gives a lot of character opportunities for all the kids to shine and their time in the lime light,” said drama club director and LPCS first grade teacher, Mandy Mihill.
The play is brought to life with the cast of 42 elementary students from grades 3, 4 and 5.
“People are definitely going to enjoy seeing the rascally Mowgli who doesn’t want to leave the jungle for the Man Village, zany Baloo the bear singing songs people know and love like the “Bear Necessities” and the amazing Kaa the snake as he tries to hypnotize Mowgli,” said Mihill. “All of the student actors have worked really hard, done a lot of character development to prepare for this play and go right into character as soon as their feet hit the stage.”
The Jungle Book Kids will be the 13 play put on by the drama club. Mihill said the production of the plays have been made possible with various volunteers who create all of the student’s costumes, Mihill’s husband, David, has built all of the sets for the plays and all of the lighting, and her two sons help to paint all of the sets and Alicia Brandes.
“I can truly say this is a family show and I couldn’t do any of it without the help of all the people who volunteer their time to make this a truly special experience for the kids who look forward to this play every year,” said Mihill.
