Tupper Lake Ferris Bueller won’t have to take the day off, but he’d better prepare to “go back in time” when the Red and Black Players present “Back to the 80s: The Totally Awesome Musical!” at the Tupper Lake Middle/High School auditorium on Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m.
Back to the 80s is a nostalgic celebration featuring more than 20 of the top songs of the “Me Decade,” with the fashions, the fads, and everything else that made the 1980s so “gnarly, dude.” It’s a bittersweet look back on a year at the fictional William Ocean High School by a character named Corey Palmer, played by Lance Vaillancourt, and his efforts to get girl-next-door Tiffany Houston played by Abby St. Onge, to go to the prom with him. His plans are thwarted at every turn by the school’s coolest guy, Michael Feldman played by Ian Gillis.
Music director for this high-energy show is Elizabeth Cordes, choral director at Tupper Lake Middle/High School and music director for all the Red and Black Players previous shows, including Bye, Bye Birdie, The Boy Friend, Seussical: The Musical, Annie, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Cinderella.
Stage director is George Cordes, who also directed Millie and Cinderella, has built all the sets for the Red and Black Players, and handles sound. Choreographer for Back to the 80s is the talented Emily Madan, recent theater graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh and a director for Adirondak Regional Theatre. Lighting designer for the show will be Tupper Lake native David Naone, who will be drawing on his training at Cal Arts and years of experience designing rock shows to give this production a real 80s look.
Other cast members include Danielle LaMere played by Cyndi Gibson, Abigail Sexton played by Eileen Reagan, Ben Geiger played by Feargal McFerrin III, Brandon Bedore played by math teacher Mr. Cocker, Emily Mitchell played by teacher Sheena Brannigan, Annachristi Cordes played by Mel Easton, Samantha Brickey played by Kim Easton, Andrew Trudeau played by Alf Bueller, Dorran Boucher played by Kirk Keaton, Dakota Larabie played by Billy Arnold, Mitchell Baker played by Lionel Astley, Alex Gagnier played by Huey Jackson, Theresa Bower played by Laura Wilde and Monica Dederick played by Debbie Fox.
