Balzac earns Rane scholarship

ABBEVILLE, Ala. — Samuel Balzac of Jay and graduate of Kenne Central School, said he was “incredibly surprised” to learn that he was chosen as a recipient of a Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship.

He says that while he realized that national scholarships were extremely competitive, he still felt a, “connection with the mission of the Jimmy Rane Foundation” and gave the application process a shot. Samuel is one of 26 students from six states to receive a Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship this year.

With dreams of becoming a professional actor, Samuel plans to use his Foundation scholarship to attend Columbia University in New York City to study the dramatic arts. Ten years from now, he hopes to be acting at a professional level and living in a New York City apartment.

Amidst his concerns about beginning his college education, Samuel says that, “it’s nice to think that money might not be among them.”

In addition to his academic abilities, Samuel was active in Kenne Central School organizations serving as president of Key Club and Music Club, and as an active member of KSC Drama Club, Area All-State Mixed Chorus, Concert Band and Jazz Band among other student and volunteer organizations. Samuel is also National Merit Scholarship Commended Student.

The Jimmy Rane Foundation has awarded 230 college scholarships to outstanding and deserving students since it was established in 2000. For more information, visit jimmyranefoundation.org.
