— The couple has six children and 13 grandchildren.

“Obviously, we’re pleased and honored,” Bob said of the selection. “It means a great deal to us.”

Bob grew up in Schroon Lake, graduating from Schroon Lake Central School before moving away. When the couple, both teachers, retired in 1993 they returned to the community.

“Schroon Lake is a beautiful place, but it’s the people who make it special,” Bob said. “We think it’s a special place. The folks are very nice.”

As Schroon Lake Citizens of the Year the Clauses will serve as grand marshals of the community’s July 4th parade this summer.

“I’ve walked in the parade many years, it’ll be nice to ride,” Jane quipped.

The couple is currently helping prepare four Schroon Lake students to perform in a Seagle Colony production this summer. Then they’ll look for another project.

“We like to stay involved in the community,” Jane said. “I think we’ll just keep doing the things we’ve been doing. It’s great to think we’re appreciated by the people of Schroon Lake.

Bob agreed.

“We really appreciate this,” he said. “It means a lot. We’re humbled by it.”
