Heritage Showcase this weekend!
Be sure to check out Thurman Station Wilderness Heritage Showcase this weekend, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27 on Rte. 418 in Thurman. There is sure to be something for everybody at this premier event.
There will be exhibitors, vendors, musicians, and crafters — all reflecting the culture and traditions of the Adirondacks.
The idea for the Showcase event was born from the desire to bring Thurman to the people, in an attempt to show to not only tourists but area residents what Thurman and surrounding communities have to offer — and once people experience a taste of mountain life, they will want to come back again and again.
Fall Farm Tour not far away
Believe it or not, the Thurman Fall Farm Tour, planned for Oct. 12, is just around the corner.
Last year was the first time I attended the Thurman Fall Farm Tour and I must say that it was a delight. It was a great way to get to socialize with neighbors that I ordinarily wouldn’t have the opportunity to see — as well as get a glimpse of their lives and their livelihoods.
My whole family enjoyed themselves, from my husband who enjoyed listening to and watching demonstrations by Gary Martin of Martin’s Lumber, to my teenagers who liked sampling Nettle Meadow’s various cheeses and side dishes that can be made with their gourmet goat cheeses.
Even though we got some light rain last year, my littlest made the best of the experience by stomping through puddles in his rain boots and imitating the turkeys at Whitefield’s Farm.
We all had such a great time that I brought my mother and stepfather the following day — on Sunday. This year it is a one-day-only event, so make sure to get out on Saturday to see all Thurman has to offer!
