Kasprzak celebrated final Mayor’s Cup Weekend

— The Mayor’s Cup Festivities carried the voices of local talent, the sound of pirates with treasures scattered throughout downtown for people to find, a day of white sails stretching across the horizon on Lake Champlain and the traditional regatta.

The Mayor’s Cup Festival and Regatta is Plattsburgh’s most time-honored and highly anticipated summer tradition on Lake Champlain. The four-day celebration included the Boat Parade of Lights, 36th Annual Regatta, Post-Race barbecue and Award’s Ceremony, as well as live music including Canadian Celtic rock band Enter the Haggis and the family fun band the Zucchini Brothers performed as well as several other bands, family arts and kid’s activities in front of City Hall and in Trinity Park, a fireworks display and more.

Mayor Donald Kasprzak said it is always a lot of hard work through the year putting together the weekend full of festivities. Knowing it was his last year as mayor he said he looks forward to enjoying the festivities next year as a resident.

“It’s always a great time we spend a lot of time behind the scenes through the whole year to pack all the fun into two days,” Kasprzak said. “I’ve definitely enjoyed working with the community to put it together over the years and I’m looking forward to enjoying it with everyone next year.”

Taking first place in the Mayor’s Cup Regatta was the “Avengers Mumm” of Lacolle, Quebec led by Jocelyn Duteau. Following in second place was “Spearmint Frers” of South Burlington led by Jeff Bourdeu and third place went to team “A Cruising Sensation II” from Lorraine, Quebec led by Luc Tardif.

In the racing division first place racers were “Buffalo Theory” of Winooski, Vt. The winning team was led by Bob Turnau Billfastigi.

Taking second place was “Galilee” of Montreal, Quebec, let by Jean Pierre Turgeon. Team “Odinn” led by Ed Trombley of Plattsburgh took third place.
