Indian Lake fire leaves two dead

— An early morning fire on Wednesday, Jan. 30 in Indian Lake was fatal for two people.

On Jan. 30, at approximately 5 a.m., the New York State Police in Indian Lake were called to assist local fire departments in investigating a house fire at 197 Pratt Road.

Preliminary investigation reveals that two people were located, deceased, inside the residence that was completely destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the New York State Fire Cause and Origin Team are assisting in the investigation. The identification of the deceased inside the house are pending forensic identification.

Indian Lake Fire Fighters and State Fire Investigators were seen combing through the rubble at the scene of a fire on Wednesday afternoon. Where the flames had completely destroyed the mobil home down to the floors with only a metal furnace and some walls were left standing.

When contacted on Wednesday afternoon State Police Investigators assigned to the case out of Ray Brook said that they were not presently in a position to release any information and that the investigation was still in progress. Indian Lake Fire Chief Paul Strain, also declined to speak about the circumstances surrounding the fire.

“Right now they don’t want us divulging any information until the police investigating the fire make a statement,” Strain said.
