North Creek The Johnsburg Central School (JCS) gymnasium was a sea of pink for the Coaches vs. Cancer basketball games that took place on Friday, Jan. 18. The Indian Lake Central School (ILCS) hosted its event on Jan. 11.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This cause empowers coaches, their teams, and the local community to make a difference in the fight against cancer. All of the evenings’ donations were sent directly to the American Cancer Society. In all, $65 was raised at JCS and about $1,712 was collected at ILCS.
The JCS girls varsity got the evening off to an exciting start with a 50-49 overtime win over Westport. Astasia Myler was the high scorer for the Jaguars with 21 points. The boys suffered a 20-45 loss to Westport with Mark Cleveland contributing 9 points. JCS plans to make the Coaches vs. Cancer games an annual event.
