Now you can have an open and frank conversation with your husband. You cannot ask this of others if you have not practiced and implemented this for yourself! We think that the best thing you can do is to NOT interact with a distracted person. Start this new method by being polite in saying, “I will talk with you when you are free” or saying, “It looks like you are very busy, let me know when you are available”. Be nice, but brief in your response, without anger or sarcasm. This short and sweet manner in delivering your message will get his attention and quite possibly arouse his curiosity. Ultimately you are working toward not responding at all when he is engaged in technology. You are also sending the message that his real life participation in the relationship is important and necessary.

Lastly, plan a date, dinner or time together that is technology free….an excellent reminder that you both deserve each other’s full attention.
