JCS Nordic ski team wraps up season
JOHNSBURG — The Johnsburg Nordic ski team wrapped up its 2012-2013 season team with the Section 2 championships on Wednesday, Feb. 13, according to coach Gary Wilson.
The event was a classic ski race held at Lapland Lake ski area.
“With temperatures hovering around the freezing point, waxing would be an adventure in experimentation,” Wilson said.
The girls, Laura Richards (28th), Gillian Hayden (48th) and Charlie Riedinger (56th on ONE ski of her own) worked hard and left all of their gas out on the 7.5 km loop.
The boys, skiing 10 km, kicked to a sixth place finish, being edged out of fifth by Mayfield.
Ethan Cooper placed 10th to earn himself a spot on the New York State Championship Section 2 team. He will go on to ski in the State Championships at Bristol Mountain on Feb. 25-26.
“Congratulations to Ethan on this fantastic accomplishment,” Wilson said. “The athletes are already looking forward to next season's competition.”
Aidan Connelly(25th) and Terence Allard (26th) also had great races to help Johnsburg's score for the meet. And John Pierson (60th) skied his first sectional race with nothing left in the tank at the end.
