continued Connell admitted that the factors in favor of Franklin County were the stage are being much bigger than the one in Westport and the way Franklin County markets to the Canadian audience, but that alcohol sales could still be a major revenue source for the fair.
“Gov. Cuomo has talked about the importance of promoting local breweries and wineries at the fair,” Connell said. “I am not sure the fair is going to survive if we do not make some changes. I hate to say it, but alcohol draws people.”
In 2012, the county Board of Supervisors voted to not allow alcohol sales on the grounds during fair week after being presented with a plan by Connell. Many voting against the sales said they were concerned there would be increased cases of violence and other issues that were not fit for a family-friendly event.
