Empire State Games wrap Sunday

A week of sports celebration will wrap up with the final day of events in the Empire State Winter Games set for Sunday, Feb. 10.

At the Olympic Center, figure skaters perform their final programs starting at 9 a.m. and running through 4 p.m. on the Herb Brooks 1980 Olympic Arena ice. In the neighboring USA Arena, the women’s hockey tournament wraps up with games between Long Island and Hudson Valley (8 a.m.); New York City and Central (9:35 a.m.); and Adirondack v. Western (11:10 a.m.). On the 1932 Rink, short track medal races will take place in the 1,500m, 500m and 1,000m open events; 777m, 500m and 1,000m scholastic events; and 222m, 500m and 333m pre-scholastic events.

At Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, events will begin with the slopestyle finals starting at 8 a.m. The alpine slalom race will also be held at the mountain, starting at 9 a.m.

At the Olympic Sports Complex at Mount VanHoevenberg, masters luge races will take place from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by the junior bobsled races from 3 to 5 p.m. The biathlon and adaptive pursuit race will take place starting at 9:30 p.m., followed by 7.5km and 5km freestyle cross country races from noon until 4 p.m.

At the Paul Smith’s VIC, snowshoeing will make its mark at the games with the 800m and 100m races set for 10 a.m., followed by the 400m race at 11 a.m. and the 5K race at 2 p.m.
