Fatal snowmobile accident in Champlain

— On December 29, State Police in Chazy investigated a fatal snowmobile accident in the town of Champlain.

According to State Police, Nicholas R. Roberts, 21, of Champlain was operating a 2003 Arctic Cat snowmobile in a cornfield near 872 Route 9 at 2 p.m., when he struck a ditch, sending the snowmobile airborne and ejecting Roberts. He was brought to CVPH by Champlain EMS, where he was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m. Clinton County Coroner David Donah was advised of the fatality.

The State Police were called at 6 p.m. to investigate the accident.

An autopsy was performed on Roberts at CVPH. The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries.

State police were unavailable for comment.
