Schroon Lake celebrates Labor Day

— The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce has announced the list of events that will accompany their annual Labor Day weekend celebration.

On Friday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Sept. 1 the Strand Theater will be showing the movie “The Mountains Will Wait For You,” about Grace Hudowalski, the first woman 46er and a lifelong proponent of hiking in the High Peaks.

On Saturday there will be a Garage Sale in the Park, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Schroon Lake Town Beach, sponsored by the Senior Citizen’s Club.

The annual meeting of the Paradox Lake Association will be held at the Paradox Community Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There will be a used book sale, benefitting the Friends of the Schroon Lake Library, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Health Center basement.

A “Down to Earth Garden Club for Kids” will be held at the library and community garden plot from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. For more information contact the library at 532-7737 x 13.

Joanies 1st Annual Art Show, showcasing Schroon Lake region artists, will be at Joanies Goodies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday’s festivities will conclude with a street dance from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. featuring the Master Cylinders, with fireworks to follow at the town beach.

Sunday will start off with the seventh annual Duck Race at 2 p.m. at Mill Creek to benefit the Schroon Lake Association.

Also at 2 p.m. there will be an instrumental jazz concert at the Boathouse Theater, featuring Schroon Lake Jazz Festival students, and faculty of Roni Ben-Hur Instrumental Jazz Camp.

“The Mountains Will Wait For You” will also be shown on Sunday at the Strand Movie Theater at 6 p.m.. Adults are $8, seniors and children $5.

Joanies 1st Annual Art Show, showcasing Schroon Lake region artists, will be running on Sunday as well, at Joanies Goodies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

On Monday, Sept. 2, there will be a Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the town hall parking lot on Leland Avenue.
