Local churches are vital in Thurman life

The String Dusters band will be featured at Thurman’s Veterans’ Memorial Field on the Aug. 12 edition of the Monday Night Concert series. From 7 to 9 p.m., this acclaimed band will play American acoustic selections — country music, bluegrass, and folk songs. The members of this band are: Bill Healy on banjo, mandolin, and guitar; Bert Wilson on bass; and Corey Hough on guitar and mandolin. Playing together since 1993, they are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Bring a lawn chair and wear layered clothing for those cool Adirondack evenings. While enjoying the music, be sure to check out the market at the event. Or, bring a card table and offer your own goods for sale. To reserve a space, contact the town hall at 623-9649.

There are three churches that have had a strong presence here in Thurman.

Kenyontown United Methodist Church is located at 304 Valley Road, across from its intersection with Garnet Lake Road South. Sunday school is held at 10:15 a.m. and Sunday worship service occurs at 11 a.m. The group invites any and all to come and join in the worship of God.
