— No school districts in the News Enterprise readership will have a contested race for the school board elections on Tuesday, May 21. However, there are some longtime board members who have decided not to run this year, particularly in Minerva, Newcomb and Long Lake.

•Johnsburg Central School: Two people are vying for two open School Board positions, according to school officials. Incumbents William Conner, the president of the School Board, and Chris Jay are seeking re-election. Conner and Jay have been on the Board for 21 and 11 years, respectively. These positions are three-year terms. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. May 21.

•Indian Lake Central School: One person is vying for one open School Board position currently held by Patrick Mahoney, according to school officials. Mahoney decided not to run again. The candidate is Leonard Franko. This position is a five-year term. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. May 21.

•Minerva Central School: One person is vying for one open School Board position currently held by Board President Michael Corey, according to school officials. Corey decided not to run again. The candidate is Caroline Kelly. This position is a five-year term. Polls will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. May 21.

Asked why he was leaving the School Board after 14 years, Corey said in an email, "I have learned much about the school, the kids, the community, and myself. I really do love being on the Board. But I'm stepping aside to give someone else the chance to do something that is incredibly important. I feel that it would essentially be selfish of me to run again, knowing there are other folks in the community who should have the opportunity to serve."

•Long Lake Central School: One person is vying for one open School Board position currently held by Board President Hallie Bond, according to school officials. Bond decided not to run again. The candidate is Paul Roalsvig. This position is a five-year term. Polls will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. May 21.

•Newcomb Central School: There are two open School Board positions currently held by Board President Stephen Freiman and Eleanor Yandon, according to school officials. Freiman is not running again, and Yandon is running for his seat, a five-year term. Marlene Bott is running for the three-year unexpired seat currently held by Yandon (she was appointed to fill David O’Donnell’s seat). Polls will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. May 21.

The deadline for filing petitions to run for school board was Monday, April 22.
