SOFTBALL

Minerva-Newcomb 21, Johnsburg 4

The Lady Mountaineers tallied 10 hits to defeat the Lady Jaguars 21-4 in their first game of the season at home. The team was led by Makenzie Winslow, who hit one home run and four RBIs. Mary LaBar had one double and three RBIs. Minerva-Newcomb also made two errors.

Astasia Myler hit two home runs and had three RBIs for Johnsburg, which tallied three hits total. The team made seven errors.

The winning pitcher was Minerva-Newcomb’s Shelby Hogan, who received help from four other pitchers. The losing pitcher was Johnsburg’s Makayla Denno, who got help from Courtney Allard and Brooke Denno.

Keene 4, Indian Lake-Long Lake 2

Emma Gray had 12 strikeouts while on the mound for the Lady Orange. She and Jazmin Pirano each tallied two hits.

The winning pitcher was Keene’s Tucker Geiger, who pitched a complete game.

Pitcher Matt Moore grabbed the win for the Orange with the help of Henry Sandiford, who entered the five-inning game in the fourth inning. Shane Short grabbed one double and tallied three of the team’s 10 hits. Curtis Seaman and Kyle McMurty each had two hits.

The losing pitcher was Keene’s Colton Venner, who struck out three.

Minerva-Newcomb 17, Johnsburg 6

April 18 @ Minerva

The Mountaineers tallied 10 hits to defeat the Jaguars 17-6 in their first game of the season at home. Austin Williams and Alex Ruzbacki each had triples, and Tyler Clickner had a double. The team headed into the bottom of the fifth inning down 5-4 but drove in 11 runs to pull ahead. The Jaguars never recovered.

Williams earned the win and pitched a complete game, giving up six hits. Minerva-Newcomb had two errors.

Johnsburg’s Kyle LaBounty hit a three-run home run and pitched a complete game despite the loss. Ethan Cooper and Nick Prouty each had a double. The Jaguars had six errors.
