Damage to a walking trail in Elizabethtown.
Elizabethtown Local residents have worked to repair hiking trails that were recently damaged in Elizabethtown.
Supervisor Margaret Barley said Bob Finney and Tim Supernaw of the trail committee recently fixed several areas on town trails that had been damaged by all terrain vehicles. Bartley said that while there are trails that allow for ATV access, there are several trails that are marked as no access for those vehicles.
“There are multi-use trails, but there are also trails that are clearly marked for no access,” Bartley said. “They went up with some shovels and rakes to fill the trails back in that were damaged so they would not erode.”
Bartley said that as the snow melts and mud season begins, some people with ATVs have ignored the “No Motorized Vehicles” signs on the BlueBerry Trails.
Bartley has also said that there has been evidence of burning on the trails, and she reminds residents that there is currently a DEC-issued burned ban in effect through May 15.
