Here’s a reminder about the Sunday Brunch Sourdough Waffle and Frittata Extravaganza at Dogwood Bread Company in Wadhams this Sunday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Suggested donation is $12 adults and $6 children, and proceeds will benefit the Wadhams Free Library. Kids and grown-ups welcome! And at 7:30 p.m. the following Wednesday, April 17, Wadhams Free Library will host a poetry reading with Marion Brown and Margot Taft Stever. These two widely published, prize-winning poets will read from their work and take your questions. The reading is free and open to the public.

The folks at Champlain Area Trails (CATS) have a couple of exciting new projects they want you to know about. Maybe you’ve followed the writing contests CATS has sponsored over the past few years, or even penned an entry or two yourself highlighting some of our local attractions. Now CATS announces their first ever photo contest, “A View From the Trails.” Any photo taken from a CATS trail is eligible, and contestants should accompany their entries with a brief caption of 25-100 words. The First Prize of $250 will be awarded by contest judge and the People’s Choice winner with the most online votes will receive $100. For information on how to submit your photo, visit the CATS web site, champlainareatrails.com.

And this year’s CATS Earth Day project will be a “Pick Up Sticks” Hike on their new Field and Forest Trail linking Wadhams and the Bobcat Trail, on Saturday, April 20. Volunteers will meet at 12: 30 a.m. at Dogwood Bread Company in Wadhams, so you’ll have a chance to grab a coffee and some fresh-baked scones or other tasty treats beforehand. “We’ll be picking up sticks because snow covered the ground and hid fallen branches when we created the trail,” CATS director Chris Maron says. Sounds like a great activity for kids. Volunteers will also re-cut the little nubs of already-cut saplings closer to the ground. Bring loppers, handsaws, and work gloves if you have them.

Last but certainly not least, congratulations to Art and Babe Donaldson, who celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on April 6. Way to go!
