— Despite all the 2011 individual accolades, the team tallied 5-8-2 last year in the highly competitive Adirondack League, new for the program. Most of the outstanding players were young, and may have needed more experience, observers have said.

But Morency said these accomplished soccer players are ready to scale new heights in the highly-competitive league.

“The girls put in a lot of time and work — they play club soccer in winter, spring and summer — and it’s producing results,” he said.

Among those working hard is Freshman Andi Pfau, who is putting in a lot of extra time learning the goalkeeper position. She’s taking over for Rosie Denne, the talented four-year starting goalie who graduated.

Morency said his team historically enjoyed considerable success in the Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference, and now as members of the Adirondack League, the players are enthusiastic about the additional challenge.

“We have a solid, hardworking team of players, and their effort is going to pay off,” he said. “They are a committed group, and they get along together. They want to work hard because they don’t want to let any of their friends down.”

Morency said he admires their spirit.

“As a group, they want to move on and win games, he said. “They want to be really competitive and leave a positive mark on the season.”
