Our life coaches, Style and Substance: On being shy

What you are thinking about, what is on your mind, is probably quite universal. The best conversations we have stream from a thought that someone is daring enough to bring up! We all like to laugh and poke fun at life! When you surround yourself with like-minded people you will find that your shyness begins to fade away and you are comfortable and confident. Make no mistake, this is a skill and may not be easy when you first make an attempt; however, practice and small steps will lead you to a fulfilling social life.

Believe that your deepest anxieties are common to us all. Everyone has had their share of struggles, disappointments and set-backs. Positive people tend to focus more on the positive aspects of life, which sometimes can be interpreted as “having the world by the tail”. You can create this attitude as well, by focusing more on what you are rather than what you are not.

Know what is going on in our community and the world, by reading, watching the news and paying attention to our local scene. Go to new places that are opening up, talk about them and see if others are doing the same. Keep trying, you will find people that you connect with simply by regularly putting yourself in some new situations.
