Osborne said that his biggest asset coming into the position of superintendent/principal will be the fact that he has been in the school district before.
“There is a lot of familiarity with how the school operates and the community values,” he said. “I am pleased to be back in a position to engage with this student body and staff and excited for the chance to now be in a position where I will be engaged with the school board.”
Osborne said he was impressed with the school board during the interview process.
“This board has a positive presence and a very strong vision for the future,” he said. “One of the things I recognized early in the process was the focus of the board on a positive school environment and opening doors to the community.”
During the interview process, Osborne also got to catch up with some of the students.
“While we were doing the building tour, the varsity boys soccer team was coming off the practice field and I was able to catch up with them,” Osborne said. “It was really good to see them after a couple of years and I think they were surprised at how many names I remembered.”
Osborne said that he hopes to keep solid community relationships and get re-acquainted with the community through meetings and social gatherings, including one that he plans to hold after he starts in his new position.
“I want to hold a meet the superintendent night in either December or January so I can get a chance to catch up with the parents I know and get to know those who are new to the school system,” he said. “I want to keep the community involved and meet with town Supervisor Margaret Bartley and the agencies that the school works with.”
Osborne said that the transition process will be made easier through his relationship with interim superintendent A. Paul Scott, who he worked with at Peru.
“That is going to be a seemless transition,” Osborne said. “It has been a very good partnership as we have worked together for roughly 11 years. He has done very fine work during this transition and I am pleased that he is part of the team.”
