North Creek The Tannery Pond Community Center will honor its volunteers with a “Celebrate the Gift of Giving” weekend Nov. 16-17 featuring the “hard-charging and powerful” swing sounds of Sherrie Maricle and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra.
This two-day tribute starts Friday, Nov. 16 with performances at 7 and 9 p.m. at the Tannery Pond Community Center and will continue with a Dinner Dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Copperfield Inn.
“The whole reason why we put this together was to thank everybody,” said Bernadette Speach, executive director at the Tannery Pond Community Center. “So many people have volunteered, given their time — their skills, their services — over the first 10 years of Tannery Pond. But this is not just about Tannery Pond. The village North Creek, the town of Johnsburg, wouldn’t be the wonderful place that it is today without these people offering their time and their energy to make it what it is.”
While researching the perfect act for the volunteer tribute, Speach sought the input of the other Tannery Pond partners, including the Widlund Gallery, Upper Hudson Musical Arts and Our Town Theatre Group.
“I found that most people really love swing music,” Speach said.
“And it’s cross generational. It’s something that most everyone enjoys and would enjoy participating in, either as a listener or a dancer.”
Over 10 years, hundreds of volunteers have contributed to the Tannery Pond Community Center and its partner organizations. While she wanted to thank volunteers for their efforts, the tribute does not include free admission to the events. But Speach did try to make it as affordable as possible.
The cost for the Nov. 16 performances is $20 for adults, $8 for students and free for children under 12. For tickets, call the TPCCA ticket line at 217-8722.
General admission for the Nov. 17 Dinner Dance is $30. Contact Carolyn Bischoff at 251-9808 for tickets and more information.
