Tupper Lake A Luminary Prayer Ceremony will be held for Colin Gillis on Friday, March 23, at the Tupper Lake Municipal park, 13 days after the 18-year-old was reported missing.
The Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce invites the community to attend this special ceremony. The event will be held in the Grand stands in the Tupper Lake Municipal Park, 53 Park Street.
Those planning to attend the event are asked to arrive at the park around 8 p.m. to purchase luminaries and write a prayer on them for Colin and the Gillis family.
Luminaries will cost $5 each with all proceeds going to the Colin Gillis Fund. The fund has been established at Community Bank in Tupper Lake.
At 9 p.m., the lights from the ball field will be turned off and a moment of silence will be observed. The lights will remain off until about 9:30 p.m. Those who attend are asked to bring a flashlight to safely navigate around the ball field until the lights are turned back on.
Luminary bags were donated by Relay for Life and Mattoons Sunflour Bakery.
Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP and share this event on Facebook by going to the Luminary Prayer Ceremony for Colin Gillis Facebook page.
Community members who won’t be able to attend the event on Friday posted messages of hope and support on the ceremonies’ Facebook page.
