Port Henry Moriah Central School is going mad. For real.
Moriah Madness will be held Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school in Port Henry. Sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association, the annual event is a day of family activities.
“This is an event that not only serves as a fundraising event for our organization, but it is also an affordable, fun-filled event for families to come to and enjoy together,” said Rose Rice of the PTA. “One hundred percent of funds raised by the PTA are used to benefit the school and the students. This is our biggest fundraising event of the year.”
Admission is $3 a child with a $10 cap for a family of four or more children. Adults are admitted free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
This year people attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Moriah Food Pantry.
Moriah Madness will feature games, arts and crafts, a book fair, pie throw, face painting, basket raffle, bake sale and more.
The pie throwing contest, which targets local celebrities — including some teachers — is a highlight of the day.
Moriah Madness attracted more than 250 children and upwards to 300 adults last year.
This year the bake sale will be sponsored by “Friends of Chasity O’Connor & Kennedy Taylor.” O’Connor and Taylor are Moriah elementary students with chronic health conditions. All proceeds from the bake sale will go to their families.
Also participating will be Penelope the Clown, Literacy Volunteers of Essex County, the Reading in Fundamental program, th PH7 Committee, the Port Henry Fact Finder, Mountain Lakes Services, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Essex County and Laura Muniz.
In conjunction with Moriah Madness, the school Yorkers Club will hold a bottle drive 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school bus garage.
