Moriah, fresh from winning the Section VII Class C girls basketball tournament, will open state tournament play tonight.
The Vikings will face Hoosic Valley, the second-ranked team in the state, at Stillwater High School. Hoosic Valley reached the state Final Four a year ago as a Class B team.
The Indians, 21-1 on the season, are ranked second in the state and returned four of their top five scorers, including junior Cassidy Chapko, the Most Valuable Player of the Section II Class C tournament. Chapko leads the team with 14.6 points a game.
Moriah is 10-8 on the season. It beat Seton Catholic, 34-21, Friday to win its first section championship since 1982. The Vikings are ranked 21st in the state Class C poll.
Hayley Waldron leads the team with 9.2 points a game.
