— The annual celebration of all things woodsmen is set for next weekend, July 14-15, in Tupper Lake.

The annual Woodsmen’s Days will start with the annual welcome barbecue and music by Bitter Sweet at the Park Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 13.

“We get together for an informal kick-off barbecue and everyone is invited to come,” Crystal Boucher with the Woodsmen’s Days Committee said. “At the event, we honor the Grand Marshal and Woodswoman of the Year (Harry and Joann Wilber) along with the person that we dedicate the annual program to (Ted Desmarais).”

Events then kick off on Saturday, July 14 with the annual Woodsmen’s Days parade from Park Street to the municipal park, stepping off at 10 a.m.

The parade theme is “Live, Work, Play.“ The parade will march down Park Street right to the Municipal Park.

“The parade comes into the park and the games begin,” Boucher said.

Men’s and women’s competitions begin at 11 a.m. with the opening ceremonies at noon, chain saw carving contest at 12:30 p.m., woodmen’s loading competition at 1 p.m., and the popular night games at 7:30 p.m. (registration is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.)

“This is the chance that the public gets to compete in the games,” Boucher said. “We have a tug of war and a greased pole, which is always an entertaining event.”

Along with the woodsmen’s events, there will also be kids events, including the junior woodsmen’s obstacle course at 1 p.m.; water balloon toss at 1:30 p.m.; three-leg races at 2 p.m.; Splish, Splish, Splash at 2:30 p.m.; egg spoon races at 3 p.m. and kids’ greased pole contest at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, July 15, the Adirondacks’ Largest Horse Pull begins at 11 a.m., followed by a chain saw carving contest at 12:30 p.m.; skidding and truck driving competition at 1 p.m.; and Professor Marvel’s Magic Show at 2 p.m.
