Heritage Day set in North Elba

North Elba Historical Society has announced the Annual Heritage Day to be held Saturday July 14 from 10 am to 3 pm.

This is the most important fundraiser of the year for the Historical Society and will feature a craft fair, food, live entertainment, book sale, the ever popular bake sale, children’s activities and a Silent Auction.

The live entertainment includes the Adirondack Saxaphones at 10 a.m., Too Tall String Band at 11:15 a.m. and the Spring Street Band at 1 p.m. These local bands will play a variety of music and provide a focal point for the Heritage Day activities.

Heritage Day will also be an opportunity for residents and visitors to see ICE! The Historic Exhibit in the history museum. Through historic photographs, objects and artifacts, the story of ice in Lake Placid is told from the glaciers to present day.

For the kids, there will be supervised children’s activities based on the ice theme from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Steve Wilson of Avalanche Adventures will be providing the bounce house.

The Silent Auction will feature a great selection of items and gift certificates from a wide variety of hotels, restaurants and shops in the region. A great selection of golf packages will be included this year. Bidding will take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and all proceeds will benefit the Historical Society and The History Museum.

Crafters will be selling items such as rustic furniture, needlework, knit items, woodworking, jewelry, and custom knives. For the second year, local non-profit organizations will also have booths in which they will display their organizational materials.

In conjunction with Heritage Day, the Lake Placid Masons will host a flea market and barbecue at their lodge on Station Street near the museum. The Masons will have many items for sale. Space is available for the flea market for a $15 fee on a first come, first served basis. For further information or to reserve a space, contact Glen Cameron at 518-637-3558 or happycooker@hughes.net.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the many activities and support the Historical Society through this fundraising event. Volunteers for the day of the event are still needed. For more information regarding Heritage Day please contact the Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society at 523-1608 or thehistorymuseum@verizon.net.
