continued “Typically, an event like this was noisy and boisterous,” Small said. “That service was so jammed pack, yet it was eerily silent. Very, very quiet. The tenor was unlike any other Civil Rights thing I have ever been involved in.”
At the Jan. 15 event, a free-will donation will be accepted to support the new Saranac Lake Ecumenical Council High School Scholarship and Saranac Lake Middle School Poster Contest.
The event is sponsored by the Saranac Lake Ecumenical Council, local clergy and many other inspired dreamers of Dr. King's dream.
There will be excerpts from Dr. King’s writings read by students and adults from the community. The Saranac Lake High School Ensembles will perform songs from the movement and a choral piece called “I Dream a World,” with text by Langston Hughes and music is by Andre Thomas. There will also be a piece by an ecumenical choir led by Pat Sprenger.
