Last year, he wore a kilt and wool socks and a St. Patty's Day hat. A leprechaun shirt completed the outfit while he struck a fighting Irish pose straight from the Fighting Irish football uniform.

He plans to score big on style again this year, though he’s carefully guarding his game plan. Style is one of five judging categories including length, fullness, manliness and sophistication.

Though his natural talent won him a bottle of Bushmills Irish Whiskey last year, Meehan said maintaining the fast-growing facial hair is more grief than joy.

“Honestly, if I had the money I'd get electrolysis so I'd never have to shave again,” he said. “I hate shaving.”

If readers are confident enough in their beard-growing, the contest will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., March 17 — St. Patty’s Day — at Basil & Wick’s on Route 28 in North Creek. Judging will be begin at 6 p.m., and prizes will be awarded. Live entertainment is planned for the event.
