— Essex County Personnel Director Monica Feeley wants all county employees currently working at the Horace Nye Nursing Home to know their options.

To help with that, Feeley sent out a letter to those who work at the facility, which is currently in the process of being sold by the county government to a private company out of New York City.

“I did a letter to all employees of HNNH giving them an idea of their benefits and options at the time of the sale,” Feeley said. “There was a lot of rumors and misinformation on some of the questions that they had and the facts that they were looking for.”

Feeley also held a pair of informational meetings following training sessions at the home.

“I went over to answer questions and go over information,” she said. “They had a lot of very good questions about some of the misunderstandings over what they could do with their benefits.”

Feeley said she also spoke with employees about what they needed to do if they wanted to transfer to a different job in the county after HNNH was sold.

“Giving them options to say if they qualify for something and pass the tests, they have to let us know that they are interested,” she said. “Hopefully we covered most of the questions and concerns. I still encourage them to come and see us if they still have questions. I went away thinking that they at least now have some of the insights.”

Chesterfield Supervisor Gerald Morrow said that he was pleased the personnel office was working with the employees.

“I think that this was long overdue for Monica to do,” Morrow said. “There were a lot of rumors out there and rumors can be more harmful than facts.”

Feeley said that she will continue to work with all of the employees at the home.

“We are still the personnel office for all county employees, and these people are still county employees so we still work for them,” she said.
